A rainy, cold, wintery Thanksgiving is pretty much a poster day for 2020. Normally Iโ€™d be turkey ๐Ÿฆƒ trotting my way to afternoon football ๐Ÿˆ and pumpkin pie. It was hard to motivate gearing up the kids for a stormy 5K at the end of a year that still has no finish line in sight...

All the more reason to get out and show 2020 what you got - face the rain & run straight into the wind! 

Because itโ€™s good for the mind and body. Because itโ€™s tradition. Because itโ€™s important to keep traditions. Because getting it done when itโ€™s uncomfortable makes you stronger.

It wasnโ€™t pretty. But Iโ€™m grateful our little crew can still run and we did it.

Good morning and Happy Monday, Active Place community! This first post has been a long time coming since I signed up a couple of weeks ago, but I'm looking forward to connecting with a few like-minded individuals on here and hopefully learning a little bit from those of you from other sporting disciplines. 

I'm Tom, an ex semi-pro rugby player and former marketing professional, turned full-time Personal Trainer and TRX Coach. Interests are rugby (obviously), strength & conditioning/weight training, TRX (also somewhat obvious), nutrition and general wellness.

I did it...I survived week one.  Itโ€™s not saying much considering I covered 95 miles in the week when Iโ€™m looking at 140 in a day but...week one is in the green with a lot of firsts: first legit training, first swim workout, first double session, first hill repeat set, first 95 mile week! And a return to not getting locked into my bike...๐Ÿ˜ฌ

As the sun sets on yet another week, I find myself sitting for a moment, which, in contrast to the rest of the week, is a well welcomed respite. I have a cold beer in my hand, I can hear the birds scrambling in the distance, and Iโ€™m tired to my core. Is the persistent push worth it? Are the early starts and late finishes worth it? Is the brimming schedule thatโ€™s fueled by drive and grit worth it?  Couldnโ€™t things be easier, less demanding and more comfortable, couldnโ€™t we just focus on what to have for dinner, hours before itโ€™s dinner? Hell Hole Falls is a ~5km out-and-back trail located in Mount Jerusalem National Park, Northern New South Wales. 

The trail begins in iconic Australian bush surroundings - crunchy ground underfoot, eucalyptus trees towering above and the sound of birds, bees and bugs zipping around. After a little time on the flat, the trail heads downhill and transitions into more tropical surrounds with palm trees and ferns in abundance. The final stretch of the trail follows a creek to a series of rock pools and small waterfalls before a plunge over the Tweed Valley. 

The track is a really easy walk and follows a well-maintained fire trail until the last couple of hundred meters. If you donโ€™t mind a dip, pack some swimming gear. The rock pools are pretty crisp and a real treat on a hot day. 

Itโ€™s not a walk Iโ€™d do regularly due to the distance from home but certainly one Iโ€™ll do again when I stay nearby and want a bit of easy adventure time.
